I like beer. Not a wine connoisseur, don't understand the allure of hard liquor except as a mental/psychological lubricant. Not condemning those who have other tastes, just want to start a thread that celebrates beer. There are folks from all over the world on here, so I would like to get their opinions. As an American, the dumb masses gravitate towards what can be called "American pisswater," i.e. Bud, Coors, Miller.

I'll start with one of my favorites. From the New Belgian Brewing Company in Fort Collins, CO, most recognizable as the brewers of Fat Tire. 1554. It's fairly rich and heavy, not for an afternoon/evening of heavy consumption. A dark beer with hints of coffee and chocolate, almost a mocha flavor.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a beer snob, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Look forward to your recommendations

Yeah, I'm no fan of "pisswater" beer no matter where it comes from. Since the advent of the microbrewery in the US though, our options have increased many-fold. Here's the first non-urine beer that at least at one time eclipsed Budweiser as the favorite tap beer in most places locally:

I like something that has good flavor, but isn't overwhelming with flavor, and doesn't make me feel as if I just ate a whole cake in one sitting (super full and bloated.)

Stella Artois is my new favorite. Especially in their large cans. :thumbleft:

Sapporo is one I ingest weekly while eating some sort of asian food. (Sushi, Chinese, Japanese is a weekly need for me.)

Blue Moon is a bit of a splurge. But it's quite filling and sweet.

Corona is an old favorite, I do enjoy mine with a single lime wedge in it, or with none at all. Out of the bottle OR can.

Coors is what we keep on stock at home, simply because it's fuckin' $18 bucks for a 30 pack and is easy to pour down the throat and enjoy without feeling stuffed to the brim. Sometimes ya just need a cheap and easy drink. :)

I don't prefer light beers. They taste much much more watery than others, and I need to drink twice as many to feel the nice relaxed buzz that one regular beer gives me.

I'm the first to admit that I'm not much of a beer girl. My stomach fills up before I get a buzz so to me it has to be all about the the taste. I tend to like lighter beers. There's a great place nearby where you can micro-brewed IPAs with really good flavor for a great price but since that doesn't do anything for anyone not in New Mexico I'll go ahead and talk about another of my favorites.

Blind Pig IPA, if you can find it it's a nice "On the porch grillin' meat" type beer. Light and refreshing, touch of tropical taste and a warm piney aftertaste. Good head on it too but it's not overly bubbly like some IPAs tend to be. I like it with pork or burgers when I get the chance. I believe it's made by Russian River Brewing Company.

Yep, I'm totally w/ you on the cheap beer. I have mine. :-D Just looking for new stuff to try. And yes, you have good taste. Stella is one of my faves.

Although I don't care for any beer in which you have to add fruit in order to make it drinkable. My opinion only.

I prefer Tecate or DosXX over Corona as far as Mexican beers go.

Not a connoisseur by any means, but also I don't care much for "pisswater" of the masses as you call it.

There is a Texas brewery that makes a nice one that I can drink all afternoon..
Shiner Bock. I also like their Hefewizen which has more complexity.

They also make several other flavors as well as the seasonal ones. Or as my son says, "weights" of beers. [as in 10W40] His fav is their "Bohemian Black Lager" which is akin to Guiness grade of motor oil.

Others are the more common, DosXX, Negra Modelo, Bohemia. Every so often I will find something interesting at the store and try it, but the cost of the "novelty beers" usually make it just that instead of a regular consumption.

I love beer. I miss beer. Hehehe. My taste in beer is notoriously bad though. Miller check. PBR check. Bud w/ lime check. Expensive beer just feels wrong. My Dad's house is always stocked with Stella and Heineken and I can't help but think how many 4 packs of high life tall boys I could get for the price he pays. :shifty: I'm classy like that.

Oh, yes, I'm in Texas so very familiar w/ Shiner. In fact Shiner Bock is my go-to in most restaurants. I've sampled most of their varieties and prefer the darker ones, including the 10W40's

Shiner has some kind of spring seasonal along the lines of "Ruby Red" or somesuch (which I am trying to vacate from my mind so the name may be off) that is absolutely horrid. I could not even finish one.

Trois Pistoles is my favorite at the moment: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/30
It can be a little pricey, usually find it for 8-9 bucks for a two pint bottle. And that bottle puts me right where I want to be.

I love Stella while I'm drinking it, but I hate the after taste. So I drink more!
It's one of the few lighter beers I enjoy, preferring a darker porter or stout.

Asheville, NC has Highland Brewery and they have a few good ones: Oatmeal Porter and Black Mocha Stout, for example.

Old Rasputin is amazing: http://www.northcoastbrewing.com/beer-rasputin.htm

I enjoy coffee and chocolate brews as well.

I feel like this makes me look like a beer snob, but I'm really not. These are just a few that I really enjoy.

I totally get that. I was there for years. But instead of thinking that, my thought was, alright I'm gonna drink some good beer tonight. Actually, that's where my taste in beer evolved. But yeah, if I'm just looking to get hammered, I'm not drinking the good stuff. :-D

Not at all. My brother-in-law, who actually is a beer snob, will drink anything when it comes to getting a buzz on.

He's the one who turned me on to good beer. But when it comes to just partying, the "pisswater" is acceptable.

Tried Pacifico? I think better than Tecate or DosXX, which taste more pissy/watery to me. Pacifico is more full flavor I think.

No, but Pacifico is now on my list. I never had a great affinity for Tecate or DosXX, but just preferred over Corona.

about the only time I'll drink a Bud/Lucky/Coors etc is if it's offered to me for free.
with that said, when I don't feel like experimenting with small brewery craft beers my store gets, I drink Alexander Keiths Red Amber Ale or Guinness or Boddingtons... depending on my mood.

I also recently started playing around with brewing my own stuff with my local U-Brew shop. experimenting with honey and apples right now :D

Old Rasputin on tap is why life is worth living.
I LOVE Russian Imperial Stouts. So much so, I have a 20 gallon carboy in my pantry right now, fermenting it's little black heart out. Bwamuahahaha!
Home brewing is awesome, it's messy science that ends with booze (most of the time  ).

I enjoy Maredsous immensely. OOh, and mixing it. 2/3 Maredsous with 1/3 Pear Cider (sweet not dry), and wah-la Pearedsous. It's delicious. Feel free to thank me later.
Youngs Double Chocolate Stout? So good. And I'm super excited that I found a pub that will serve half-pints on request! Because a whole pint (of say Guinness) is a bit much for the light weight that is me.

I do prefer a denser mouthful, which is why I like Stouts over Lagers. Although I'm always willing to try any beer that spent at least part of it's aging process in a bourbon/whiskey cask. mmmh.

If I am in the mood for something lighter, I like most ciders or framboise. Also, Leinenkugel makes some nice lighter brews. Their Berry Weiss tastes like fruity pebbles! It really really does. It's amazing and dangerous.
Oh and Fentimans Ginger Beer ! It's one of the better Ginger Beers I've come across. It's good an ginger-y without ...burning like liquid ginger? If you don't like ginger, I don't suggest trying it. But if you do, it's yummy.

My family tends to drink a lot of Shinner. It's OK I guess, like with greasy foods and sports on the tv...and no way out. So, perfect for family dinners! ;3 Ha.

I'm not a huge fan of Shiner Bock (except in cooking), but I do like their Black Lager. I even liked the Ruby Red that I tried, but a) I love grapefruit, and 2) i'm not sure I would call it a true beer.

My early tastes tended toward the darker heavier beers, Stouts and Ambers, but I'm slowly finding things on the light side of the spectrum. Stella is good stuff, and I'm a big fan of wheat/white beer. Living in Texas, most of the year is a good time for summer beer, and UFO White has been my go-to recently, which I prefer to Blue Moon, but it's harder to find. I also saw New Belgium's Somersault recently, which I'd like to try out.

Lately I've been trying anything I can get my hands on from Circle Brewery, which is in Austin. I started with their Dry Irish Stout (AKA Nightlight), and then had their Envy, which was like slightly lighter version of a Guinness Draught. Both have been very good (I really liked Envy), and I'm looking forward to their wheat offering, Blur.

Back in my younger days when I was a drinker, being from the Midwest I drank Stroh's , Rolling Rock, and Budweiser, I also drank Coor's when west of the Mississippi for a change. I drank San Miguel in the Philippines to go along with the LBFM's and a few other local beers at different places while stationed overseas.
Here's a little something I have been trying to find a chance to use: Enjoy

I also live in Texas, and Shiner is pretty much a given at any social function around here. I love a good IPA, but I'll be down to try almost anything. I just like beer. My favorite of all time is Guinness (I named my dog after it!), but I prefer it in the winter time. It's much to heavy to drink in the heat.

I love Shiner! Their seasonal beers can be pretty good too. I've tried the Black Lager and was not a fan. I can't drink much Shiner in general because it gives me heartburn, all dark beers do :( I usually can only handle 1 or 2 bottles before I have to stop.

If I'm feeling self indulgent and in a spoiling myself mood, I drink Harp, it's made by Guinness. Sometimes I'll pick up Dos Equis instead.

For the most part I drink Miller Lite, lol... Cheap, I can drink a lot of it without getting super bloated and gets the job done XD

I love beer! I'm not a big drinker really, I hate being drunk but I love a good beer!
I'm a big fan of microbrews! When I used to live in Portland I went to this store called the Belmont station. It's like Valhalla for beer snobs!
They have 6 packs and cases but you can also buy per bottle and they fill custom cases! They carry beers from all around the world that you've never heard of, some upwards of $50 per bottle! I miss that place!

When it come to the average brands I love me some Blue moon and Killians. Of course because I'm an Oregon always and forever I'm genetically engineered to love PBR! It may be cheap but ya'll gotta admit, it's a pretty damn good lager.
