Antipornography.org, a radical feminist anti-sex work organization, demonizes members of camsites. One of their activists is an ex porn star who also claims to have been a camgirl in the past.
On their website she has written a story about her "experiences with having been a webcam model". In it she talks about the
"horrors of being a cam girl" and portrays members as being mean, sick, and evil. While along with her story she does mention some stuff that is legitimate, a lot of what she says about camming is exaggerated/made up, and what she says about members is bullshit, too bad to be true, and highly offensive.

Hmm. Unless I am overlooking it, she left out "order you to stuff your panties in your mouth", which is something that bothers me for some reason.

The closer you get to the extremes of opinions the more predictable is what you will see and read.
I am a friend of free speech, so it is not bothering me, I see it as entertainment.......

"Mean, sick and evil" sounds like a promising room name....

:)

None of that seemed "too bad to be true" to me, but I do think a lot of her reactions are stupid. You don't have to smile and sit there while someone talks shit about their wife. You don't have to cater to dudes who want you to shove everything inside you. You don't have to be a sex worker if you find it violating or upsetting.

I can understand some arguments against sex work but "I found it upsetting (but stayed in it for several years)" isn't one of them.

She does generalize members, not mentioning the many good ones and only mentioning the bad ones.

Yeah, that's what I'd expect from AntiPornography.org haha. Not exactly a well-rounded site that's going to showcase both perspectives.

Sounds like she treated herself like an object. Whether you do porn, cam or are a prostitute you have the right to say no and if you don't exercise that right, then that's on you.

It's like saying dating is horrible because you have to sleep with everyone on the first date. Nope, you really don't. Are people going to ask you to? Yes. What people ask you to do or expect you to do means nothing if you're a vaguely well adjusted person.

It's frustrating to think so many women have experience with camming and hated it so much because every single article revolves around the woman's inability to stick up for herself. People are assholes, they are demanding, they are rude, no matter what career you go into. Wherever you go, whatever you do, people will treat you as badly as you let them. It's sad to see a grown woman who hasn't realized that yet and likely, due to the effort put into demonizing something so complex, never will.

So true. I was once a naive doormat of a camgirl, and I felt awful every day. Finally I decided enough was enough and have since only done the shows that I want to do, only interact with people I like, and man, if it isn't the most empowering job ever now. There will always be douchebags, but if you focus on them you'll miss out on all the incredible humans who happen to like sex and socializing on the Internet.

Hmm,....... wondering how "Doormat" would go over as a nic....
I'm also wondering why anyone would care what some extremist anti porn bunch would say about them. I truly don't give a crap what they might feel about me simply bc i have a healthy sexual appetite.
whats the thingy.... 'IDGAF' what anyone thinks bc its none of their business.
Maybe I should put salt around the house to keep the 'antiporn feminazi demons' away. lol.

That was an interesting read. I agree with Ann D'Ville. It was definitely a career path she should have stayed away from. Seemed she really focused on the negative aspects and didn't sound like she set any boundaries for herself. There are always plenty of douche bags on cam sites. But if they weren't there, nothing would be posted in the "Things Members Do That Make You Say WTF!" :)

She also posted something in there that I had never heard of until a month ago...Sticking an object up the urethra of the penis. A model friend of mine had a pvt and the guy had one of those. I could have gone my entire life without knowing anything about that. :vomit:

  • Sorry to hear that.

Wow.. That was a really dark article. Definitely blownout of proportion. Almost like every singular bad camming experience and annoying crazy internet asshole all packed into one session. Throw in every creepy fetish request but without the option to say no or block people for FEAR of loosing money? Pfftt... Maybe i just havnt had my fair share of mean trolls. Most members are incredible nice. Ive seen and heard some weird stuff since I started camming but its easier to laugh it off. I'll never forget this guy that asked me to watch him put batteries up his ass. Of course I said no and informed him that battery acid could be permanently damaging to his precious butthole. But it was still funny. that chick needs to lighten up a bit. If she hated it so much she should have applied at McDonalds where customers scream at you because their fries are cold.
