a SHOUTBOX?

What do you guys think of a shoutbox in the forum? I think it would really be fun with one here!
Though the downside is of having people who always spam and ask unnecessary stuff! Only God can save them or admins of the forums

Well if that's the case you could:
- Only make it available for models and vip members
- or make people who are really active moderators of the shoutbox so i's spam free!

shoutbox not for citchat but i was thinking more like models saying
'show sow in 5 mins' or 'i will be online in 10 mins'

Most shoutboxes run on ajax technology (eg you see the messages without having to refresh the window) while ajax technology has it's advantages it has two big disadvantages.Security and severload for example a busy forum like this one could get a "heavy" serverload when allot of people would be using the shoutbox.If the host notices this heavy usage they will be knocking on amber's mailbox also shoutboxes can easly be abused and not only by spamming though this depends on how the shoutbox is coded if html coding (and script coding for that matter) is not properly cleaned the whole site is at risk for XSS (Cross Site Scripting) security vulnerabilities.Things that could be done depend on the specific hole but to have an idea....

meta redirects (eg ambercutie.com redirects to some other site )
cookie stealing (eg logging in to an account that is not yours)

XSS holes aren't the only possible hole by the way but going further on this would be beyond the scope of this topic

This site, like MFC, often has a lot more guests online than registered members, and this is an adult-themed site. A shoutbox could lead people to register just to badmouth a model or a perv member. Apart from the important security issues, which I've not had experience with, that sounds like enough reason to nix the idea.
