    The Black Lives Matters thread.

Idk if you've read previous pages of this thread or not but on page 9 there's plenty of posts that explains why a person wouldn't respect an officer just because they are an officer. This post, describes it best, imo : I guess it really boils down to how you define & value the word respect.

    Oh, this could be interesting.

The OP reminded of this Dr. Who episode :

I have to give time to really settle in and read everything, and form my opinions on it. But at first glance, I don't like the language they're using, it's too strong & "fix everything you ever did wrong to black people". But at the same time, I agree with how I'm interpreting things so far...

Did you mean to post this in this thread? I don't understand the relevance between an emoji & BLM.

Stressing cooperation: Cooperation is a two-way street, though. If a cop comes up to me demanding my i.d. I'm going to ask questions, they could cooperate with me and tell me why they're asking for my i.d. If all they say is "because I asked you to/ because I told you to." I'm not doing it...

Paige, I really appreciate you telling your story here. It sparked another question : Do you guys feel it is necessary to use "Sir" when speaking to the police? Why? And do you feel like it's handing them authority over you?

I guess for me, I can respect the job and not the person because I don't know them. I don't know if theyre a person who should be respected or not. Like aside from the duties of their job- do they help the community or are they a shit posting troll. Or do they beat their wives and are crazy...

So basically we should respect their job and by respecting the job we should just naturally respect them?

Honest question : Why are people "required" to respect police?

Attacking someone for no reason vs attacking someone who has made strong generalizations based on deep-rooted racial stereotypes against your race & has dismissed or attempted to disprove your (and others) personal experiences. Huge difference in my book. ETA: (cause I know you'll read this)...

(ugh I tried to change it to only the news interview but got caught up watching other videos after missed the but : NYPD Says Proof of Quota Driven Arrest Also this video : it's from 2013 but it explains Stop & Frisk very clearly and why it's harmful.

Ah, okay. Hmm. Yes, they will still be treated as normal, but also they will be targeted more. For example, there's a quota for cops to make arrest, in NYC there's a quota for how many stop & frisks they do. If black americans were to leave that means that the quota will most likely still exist...

I guess what I meant was that another minority group would be the next to "fill the role". So just because black people leave America, doesn't mean black problems also leave. LEO's would still be instructed to stop & frisk minorities, there will still be police brutality, minority citizens will...

DP- black separatism: I don't really have a concrete opinion on it because I've never considered it as a necessary thing/option. Right now it seems unrealistic & kinda of like a temper tantrum to say "just give us our own shit & we will leave cause we're tired of being around you" like to me...

I'm going to go with you misread me, but it's okay. I formed this opinion from seeing the practices of media and how they feed into fear mongering which is usually based on racial stereotypes prior to the last 3-5 years, in which it has gotten a bit more "fair". And how they use past criminal...

Thank you JustJoined for the video. This is Jessi Williams speech from the BET Awards ETA: My personal favorite line of this speech is "If you have a critique for resistance, our resistance, then you better have an established record of critique of our oppression. If you have no interest in...

@supermila What makes BLM seem like a hive mind, that doesn't apply to other groups of people? B/c how you're describing it, since BLM creators find inspiration from Assata Shakur, I as a supporter of BLM also without a doubt find inspiration from Assata Shakur. Why can't people have their own...
